Lake Manyara National Park
Overview
Derives its name from the Maasai word Manyara which is the name for a plant Euphorbia tirucalli. Lake Manyara National Park is In northern Tanzania.The entrance gate lies 1.5 hours. 126 km (80 miles) west of Arusha a long a newly surfaced road close to the ethnically diverse market town of Mto wa Mbu, Cover ing 330SqKm (about 127sq miles), of which about 200sq Km ( 77 sq Miles) is lake when water levels are high. The park is located between the 600M escarpment of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara.
Location: The lake Manyara national Park is Located in Northern Tanzania, 126 Km ( 80 miles) west of Arusha. You can get there by road, Charter or Scheduled flight from Arusha en-route to Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.
Bird life: The park hosts over 400 species both migrant and resident including thousand of red billed quelled flitting over the water like Swarms of giant insects: Pelicans, Cormorants and pink Streaks of Thousand of flamingo on their perpetual migration.
Wildlife: A wedge of surprisingly varied vegetation sustain a wealth of wildlife, nourished by chartering Streams bubbling out of the escarpment base and waterfalls spilling at the Southern end of the park are hot sulphur springs called Maji Moto, further a long the forest opens up into woodlands, grassland, Swamps, and beyond the soda lake itself. Acacia woodland shelters the Park's is famous but elusive tree-climbing lions, a long with Squadrons of mongoose feasting on the trail of buffalo and elephant the most pachy dreams per square Km in Tanzania. Also driving across the valley, one can see giraffes and often a variety of other plain dwellers such as wildebeest, Zebra and Ostrich even before reaching the park.
Access: The Park is 126 Km west of Arusha and the drive takes about one and half-hours (one and half hours). There are also Charter flights from Arusha which takes half an hour flight.
To do: Game drives, Canoeing when the water levels is sufficiently high. Cultural tours, mountain bike tours, abseiling and forest walks on the escarpment outside the park.
